Indigenous to the desert of the Kalahari in South Africa and in Namibia. Devil’s claw has the typical characteristics of a Savanna plant.   It has a primary root from which branch off secondary bulbous storage roots. These storage roots are rich in active ingredients as Harpagoside, Harpagide and Procumbid.

Devil’s claw is a folk remedy used for an extensive range of diseases, including arthritis and rheumatism. Clinical trials are generally supportive of its use as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic in low back pain and osteoarthritis.
