Acacia

Acacia is a large genus of shrubs and trees in the subfamily Mimosoideae of the pea family Fabaceae. Plants are native to Africa and Australia. A number of species have been introduced to various parts of the world. Numerous commercial plantations have been established. The hardened sap of various species of the acacia tree are known as acacia gum. Acacia decurrens bark contains about 37–40% tannin. The flowers of several species are used to produce yellow dye, and the seed pods are used to produce green dye. Acacia seeds oil is commonly used in cosmetics.
