Neurodermatitis, also known as Lichen simplex chronicus (LSC)

Neurodermatitis usualy starts with a patch of itchy skin.
Symptoms maybe following: dry, sensitive skin, redness, itching, weeping patches of skin, scaly, rough skin, darkened, (lichenified) skin. Neurodermatitis appears in patches. The skin may become thickened and hyperpigmented. Unlike atopic dermatitis, the patches tend to always be present while the rest of the skin remains healthy.
The causes of damadged skin are many, as genetic predisposition, environmental factors, chemical irritants /allergens. Skin disorder may be associated with psyhological stress, nervousness, anxiety, depression and other psychological disorders. Poor immunity and bacterical infections may also cause LCS.
There is no laboratory test to establish neurodermatitis.  It is usually diagnosed by careful observation and history taking. The diagnosis is based on the typical symptoms listed above.
Recently these type of skin disordre is frequently seen in dermatology.
Treatment is aimed at reducing itching,calming, protectin skin, minimizing existing lesions because scratching exacerbate the problem.
