Cystitis is an inflammation of the bladder, specifically, the wall of the bladder.
Cystitis is most commonly caused by a bacterial infection.
Under normal conditions, the bladder is resistant to bacterial infection, but anything that disrupts the normal passage of urine can damage and lead to irritation of the bladder wall lining – predisposing to inflammation and infection.
Cystitis affects people of both sexes and all ages.
