Bergamot / bitter orange (Citrus aurantium ssp. bergamia).

The bergamot is a variety of sour orange (sour orange-native to Asia), but the exact origin is unknown. It has been grown in Southern Italy and parts of France for centuries, and is now commercially grown in these regions.
Bergamot fruits are medium sized, yellow/orange skinned orange with a strong acid flavor, and aromatic rind.
Bergamot essential oil is a cold-pressed essential oil from the peel of bergamot orange fruit . It is a common top note in perfumes. The scent of bergamot essential oil is similar to a sweet light orange peel oil with a floral note. The main compounds in the oil are limonene, linalyl acetate, linalool, γ-terpinene and β-pinene, and in smaller quantities geranial and β-bisabolene.
Bergamot essential oil is often used to scent food, perfumes, and cosmetics. Well known “Earl Grey tea” is a type of black tea that contains bergamot essential oil as a flavouring.
